Taste Buds in Sunnyvale has been featuring a pair of gongura specials (gongura chicken and gongura dal) for the past few weeks and they are really amazing! I have never had this sour green before bit it is definitely addictive.

Are there other places that serve gongura dishes locally now that it is in season? The only mention I saw besides Taste Buds was Melanie's mention of gongura dishes at Tirupathi Bhimas. That sounds like a good reason to finally try them out, but it would be great to know of even more places to try.

Thanks,
Michael

Gongura is back for it's yearly appearance at Taste Buds; today's choices were chicken, goat and mutton. I'm planning to finally try Tirupathi Bhimas this week, so I'll see if it's there, but that Andhra thali is really calling out to me from the online menu.

I got some gongura goat last night at Taste Buds. It was terrific. Next time, if they still have any, I want to take a good look at the plant. It tastes like sorrel, though I gather that it's often fermented, whereas sorrel tastes like that all by itself. Interesting that they use it with dal, because I often put sorrel in lentils that I make.

Anyway, I look forward to having some more. I hope it's around for awhile. How long is the season? Anyone know?

Glad you liked it! The season is about a month or two, if I recall correctly, but this year's started later than last year's.
