I am looking for a place in SF to bring a vegetarian friend who is very much into the brown liquor (whiskey, scotch, rye, etc.). Any thoughts on restaurants with good liquor selections as well as vegetarian options?

How about in near proximity but not the same place? Suggest dinner at Ti Couz (interesting selection of excellent Breton buckwheat crepes including veg versions) followed by drinks at Elixir which is one of the best watering holes for that sort of thing in SF (and its just a block and a half away).

You have to get the *right* bartender at Elixir. It's not always stellar.

Nihon, Folsom at 14th, has a ridiculously overblown whisky selection as well as a fair
number of fish- and meat-free sushi/robata-like small plate thingies.

By the way, I decided to go to Aziza, on the basis that plentiful vegetarian options would be better than plentiful scotches. Dinner was fantastic and the fixed price menu is always a good deal (and a good idea when you have a mixed vegetarian/carnivore group, as you can chose the entrees). Plus the cocktails are so interesting that my friend was willing to diverge from his typical scotch-only policy.

Thanks for reporting back. Just one more instance of Aziza being a good answer for almost any request on this board (that's not geographically specific).
