So Food and Wine Magazine gave Vancouver the ranking of 10th best city in the world to eat. Well done and deserved. Ranking it with, Tokyo, New York, Paris, Chicago, Sydney et al. Pretty impressive class as well only Canadian city on the list. Toronto did rank 4th as a city to watch out for in the future.

Vancouver is a great restaurant city for sure....but note that the great eating cities of Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, etc. didn't make the cut. So as they say...take the rankings with a grain of salt.

Also- Chicago? Really? Do they think everybody in Chicago goes to Alinea and Charlie Trotter's? I grew up there and don't consider Chicago even in the same league as Toronto as average dining experience goes- not to mention the outstanding plethora of markets and grocery in general in Toronto. Chicago doesn't have anything even remotely like a St Lawrence Market or Kensington Market. Chicago's Chinatown doesn't touch Calgary's never mind Toronto's.

You can list another couple of dozen cities that "deserve" to be on the list. And since F&W didn't publish criteria, then I assume it's purely an arbitrary exercise.

I prefer Toronto, but that's just me. You can't get a decent roti in Vancouver.

Personally, roti is a once in a while dish. Toronto has preponderance of good roti. However, since my tastes tend to favor Asian flavours...especially Japanese...I would not want to trade Vancouver's great Japanese food for Toronto's.
