Good Rest. in Piermont, NY Area -- HELP!!!!!
I'm going on a date this Friday -- and he had mentioned going to Pasta Amore -- however, from the reviews on here, it's not the best place to eat. I'm looking for something reasonably priced, but right on the water -- something with a view -- Piermont AREA. Any suggestions??? HELP!

After a wonderful day walking around Piermont we were driving on route 303 and spotted a great looking Mexican restaurant. It caught my attention because it was about 2:30 pm on a Sunday, yet the patio was filled with people. We drove in, ordered, and were more than pleasantly surprised. Excellent salsa, two of the best tamales ($5) I've ever eaten, and a large delicious fajita plate ($11). The food had a unique, special flavor. There is a lunch menu every day for only $7 and the atmosphere is nice and laid back. My kind of restaurant. I immediately added the address to my Garmin navigator.

Try Relish in moments away Sparkill. If you don't mind waiting for a table the Freelance Cafe is great as well.

Neither of those two recommendations have views or are on the water.
My first recommendation is go across the bridge to Dobbs Ferry to "Half Moon" which has spectacular river views and really great food. Its a new restaurant at the old Chart House Location.
You can go to the "Lighthouse" in Piermont. The views are great but the food isn't spectacular.
Portofino is in Piermont on the river too, ( a few blocks north of town) but im not sure if there are outdoor views. Decent Italian food.
You can also go to Cevile's in Haverstraw. Good food decent river view.
In Tarrytown, also across the Tappan Zee is "Striped Bass" right across from the train station, and "Sunset Cove" about 1/4 mile south of the train station on the river. Both have ok food and good river views.
In Irvington, the next town south of Tarrytown, "Red Hat" has excellent food and excellent river views.
In Hastings, there is "Blu" and "Harvest on Hudson" (same owners as Half Moon) Good food and good views.
You're probably thinking across the bridge is too far, but unless you are walking, you can get to the Tarrytown side of the bridge in no more than 10-15 minutes from Piermont. It really isnt that far.
I think you'll find the better food on the Westchester side of the river.

re: frequentdiner
If the view is the deal breaker, then yes, Westchester is a better option. However, if good food is more of a concern, then I don't really think the places recommended above (in Westchester) have better food than either Freelance or Relish. Red Hat might be, but I haven't been there in years.
If you choose Freelance, you can always take a walk on the pier after dinner and enjoy the view then. One more caveat about Freelance, they do not take reservations and the wait can be long. They also do not take credit cards.
Good luck and let us know what you chose.-
re: HungryRubia
We went to Relish in Sparkill recently and had some of the best food we have ever had. But, there is no view. Entrees tend to be priced in the $20's and are well worth it. It is small and intimate and not at all fancy. It definitely was not what I had expected, but four of us went, ordered totally different foods, and loved everything and everybody.

re: HungryRubia
There is no question that Freelance and Relish have food better than most of my recommendations (I think Half Moon food is excellent, by the way), but the original poster asked:
"I'm looking for something reasonably priced, but right on the water -- something with a view."
Neither Freelance or Relish meet those criteria.

re: frequentdiner
While it isn't the exact criteria what they were looking for I'd still rather go to Freelance where I know the food is going to be good, then any of the other Piermont places where I know the food is not going to be as good. I think the fact they do not take credit cards could be a breaking point, do you say to your date, "by the way bring enough cash, they don't take cards"? , If the date is going well, it would be nice to take a walk on the path by the river. I'd forego the dessert at Freelance, and buy a cone at the flywheel creamery for the stroll. I'd consider the new French place too if the kinks have been worked on.

re: jerseyhearts831
If that is the one in Piermont/Grandview, the view may be much better then the food unless things have changed. The last time I was there was a year ago, and it reminded me of the food you get at a not so great wedding. Please report back, I'm hoping it's changed since then. Have a great night.
