lunch near Baruch College

  • 8

My daughter's high school graduation is being held at Baruch College. I'd like to take a few of us out for lunch afterwards in the neighborhood (East 20's) and I'm looking for something that isn't too expensive but still seems festive. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  1. Turkish Kitchen on 3rd Ave and the 20s is excellent. There is a new wine bar that is supposed to have great food on 3rd by Baruch too. I can't remember the name.

    1. You could also also consider Bar Milano (Italian) and Blue Smoke (BBQ).

        1. The wine bar referred to by jackieparis is Bar Milano, which jakew8 has suggested. It's on the corner of 3rd & 24th St., one block east of Baruch. And, yes, the contemporary Italian cuisine is excellent.

Fleur de Sel, on 20th St., b/t B'way & 5th, serves superb modern French cuisine. The 3-course lunch prix-fixe is $29. It's a small restaurant with lovely ambiance. A wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion.

Congrats to the graduate and Bon Appetit!

          1. I don't like this place, but everyone seems to be raving about it: Resto

Of course, you are near Gramercy Tavern, that'd be my first choice

While Gramercy Tavern would be a fine choice, Claire did say "not too expensive," and I think most people would agree that the formal dining room at G.T. falls into the expensive category. The Tavern is less expensive, but they don't take reservations, and for this occasion, especially with 5 people, I'm not sure that would be a good idea.

If G.T.'s dining room would fit the budget, then Claire could also consider Eleven Madison Park, where prices are similar. It would be my first pick for a celebratory lunch.

            2. I enthusiastically second RGR's recommendation of Fleur de Sel--it's pretty, the service is superb, and I think I would have loved it at high school graduation age. It feels like a special event kind of place.

Another thought: if you are going to have a large-ish party (8 or more) and like Indian food, Tamarind on E22nd has a private room adjacent to the restaurant that you can see from the street that I bet they'd set up just for you with a little personalized set menu, etc.

              1. wildwood isn't too far away as well as dos caminos & pipa.
