      Fascinating. I'd never noticed goulash on the menu at Sarge's (probably because I was distracted by all the other goodies). Have you tried it? Is it any good?

        Nope. Never tried the goulash.

    2. I might try their goulash now because I don't want to cook with this oppressive heat.

      Hungarian *authentic* -->

        I'll second that. I used to live on the UES and loved this place. It's a little pricey, but I gladly paid because it's done so well -- especially the spices used. Real Hungarian paprika makes a big difference.

          I've stated this before, and I'll say it again ...

          The whole place smells like a smoker (but in a good way, a really good way).

      2. Another UES option is Andre's Cafe on 2nd between 84th & 85th. Andre's is usually mentioned by chowhounds in discussions of their pastries, but they also carry savory dishes, including ghoulash.
        (I'm not a fan of most of their stuff, but the strudel is pretty good. However, others seem to like the restaurant quite a bit.)
