Yes, I am embarassed to admit this, but I did try it. I let it breathe for about two hours. Great, no. But, it was better than the $1.99 TJ's wine. (Charles Shaw)

speaking of the Charles Shaw, I thought the Cabernet was drinkable. But BEWARE the Merlot -- not even worth $1.99, although it was ok on a marinade for a roast chicken.

Agreed. Also, I prefer the Sauvingon Blanc to the Chard. And speaking of TJ's, they have a Camelot (KJ) Pinot Noir at either 44.99 or $5.99 that is a wonderful buy.

Yes, the Camelot Pinot Noir at $5.99 is a good enough wine. Having some tonight. Took your rec and was thankful I did. Not great, but it will make you forget the Charles Shaw, but then so will a glass of water.

for $3.99? I thought it was a great bargain.Been paying $7.99 out here in Foxboro,MA!

Right on comments on the Charles Shaw, with the Merlot a big UGH and the cab an ok buy for $1.99. As to the Sauvignon Blanc, have not tried, but it is generally a better made wine for the buck than nearly all chards. Also, try semillon blended wines for some interesting characteristics at generally affordable prices when you see them available. Some Aussie and NZs are especially nice, even from TJs.

1994 was Washington State's best year in the past decade, and Washington's first red wine successes were almost all merlot based, before the late 90s merlot fad and resulting glut of crap. So it might be worth trying the merlot. At $1, what's the downside.

Staton Hills IIRC was a legitimate albeit mediocre winery near Yakima. It has been retooled, probably by new owners, as Sagelands and is apparently on the upswing. This wine wasn't intended to be a one buck chuck when made.
