I love fried green tomatoes. I make them every summer, when my uncle brings me the homegrown matters. Not I am going to have to eat me up some.

We had some REALLY good ones at Bistrotek in the MDR/Westchester border at the Custom Hotel. P. made a sandwich with them and the Crab Cake and their hot crusty rolls...

I was reading that dish is probably Jewish in origin.

I believe Citizen Smith has them on the menu, but I have never tried them. There are a couple of stalls at the Hollywood Farmers market that have them right now (saw them on Sunday) so you could make them yourself if you are really craving!

South, on Wilshire in Santa Monica offers both fried green tomatoes and fried pickles. Both are pretty good, although not great. And they have a long "happy hour", should you just want bar food, so fairly inexpensive to try them out.

Don’t stop with the fried green tomatoes but also have the fried okra and fried dill pickles.

Thank you! I know Citizen Smith quite well, but haven't been there in eons - since they are the most convenient location I will try them. Cook them myself? Are you crazy, this girl just doesn't have bacon grease lyin' around. That scares me! :)
