Eldo Cake House?

Eldo is one of my go-to Chinese bakeries and has been closed as the building is under construction. There was a banner today saying is is open during construction but when i got there, the building is still gutted and I can;t imagine anything there for weeks, Anyone know what's going on?

Need to know too - I walked through a bunch of construction sites last weekend trying to find the right door that would get me into the place - Not sure it exists any longer, despite the sign.

Is this a new development? We were just there a few weeks ago - there was scaffolding up all over and things were a mess, but the cake and candy shops were both going strong . . . . did you go up to the door and look in? I can see how from the street you might not be able to tell there is cake going on in there!

Yes, I was there today and last week and the first floor is gutted. No cake, no buns, no service!

Uh oh. This is serious! I'm going to go through cream-bun withdrawal soon and my kid is going to raise a stink about the lack o' candy . . . anyone, please, info.?

I walked by today and while it's still closed, the whole bakery looks like it's been totally redone -- counters, tables, wall menu are all ready, just empty. So maybe it'll open back up soon?

I sure hope so. I really miss their sponge cake!

Eldo isn't opening back up for a WHILE. I was in Chinatown today and got some gossip... they're having some serious issues with construction. Apparently their floor is totally uneven (?!?!) and is going to take a lot more work than anticipated. I went ot a little bakery right down the street for my sponge cake fix with whipped cream and strawberries. Will do- for now.

I am so disappointed! How can they afford to be closed so long? Where did their bakers go to work in the meantime?

Please do! Funny how attached you can get to a place. It's always been my go-to place with my son and I vow their sponge cake was the best to be had.

UPDATE ON ELDO CAKE HOUSE!!!

I was given the wrong information! I just walked by tonight and the construction seems mostly done. The cases are on and there were about five large cakes in the cases. I believe there were some slices, too. I don't know if these are special orders or something, but it looks like they are open for SOME type of business.

How about a Chow Meetup at Eldo?!
