Ocean on Clement is Gone

I tried to take my family to Ocean (between 8th and 9th on Clement) for dim sum this morning and was very disappointed, actually devastated, to find that they are no longer in business. The business there now is a pho place called Quan Ngon or something similar.

I didn't try it so I can't comment on quality. Just wanted to let you all know.

I was there this afternoon and noticed that too. It's the end of an era. In the 80's, Ocean was one of the best restuarants in town for full service Chinese dining, and later became known as a super-cheap place for dim sum with a large Senior Citizen fan base.

I also noticed some other changes on Clement. Tasty Tapioca has been replaced by Cynthia's Crepes (egg puff fans will want to know she makes them) at 625 Clement, and Lee Hou has a posted change in ownership.

I also noticed a banh mi place with a big takeout window on the north side of Clement (forgot which block) that I don't recall seeing before, but I might have just overlooked it in the past.

Is it the one with the small coffee shack next to See's?

      I'm bummed about Ocean too.

Oh no! No more Oatmeal tapioca? (It really was good.)

That's sad. Ocean was one of the better Canto places in its heyday..in the mid-80s to early 90's. It's been in decline for quite a while...like 10 years?
