  1. To minimize the potential for the soggy crust we experienced on our first trip to Cibo, we ordered one of their white pizzas ("Salsiccia con Patate") on a recent visit. It had a little more cheese than I was expecting, but still pretty tasty overall. I especially like the sausage they used.

My favorite local "non-red" pizza was the oh-so-decadent pesto pie at Pizza Town (RIP) in Tempe.

    1. Funny you should mention this. I was just reading Seth Chadwick's blog and he mentioned a delicious white pizza at Ninetta's Passion Bistro.

      1. Classic Italian Pizza has several white pies that I love. I can't remember what they're called and CIP annoyingly does not have a Web site, but the pizza makes up for it.

And who could forget the biancoverde at Pizzeria Bianco?

I actually have never had the biancoverde - I'm ashamed; the sonny boy is my standard, but I'm definitely trying that next time. I did see you mentioned CIP's white pizza on another thread as well, so I will add that to the list.

        2. Humble Pie has some good white pizzas. I really like the shrimp and burrata.

Uncle Sam's has one sporting tomato, artichoke hearts, broccoli, and bacon. YUM.

          2. The white clam pie at Pizza Town (RIP) in Tempe was an unsurpassed award-winner. A couple of times a year I will splurge on a large white clam number from NYPD on 20th St, with either the roma tomatoes, or spinach, or both. It's even better re-heated, redolent of garlic, olive oil, and sweet lumps of ricotta.

            1. La Piazza al Forno in Glendale has a great white pizza. Their brick oven pizza uses fresh mozzarella, ricotta, and fresh basil. This place is kind of new but really deserving of credit for what they're doing.

              1. Totally agree with Silverbear's choice of Pizzeria Bianco, but my fav white pizza there is the wise guy with their housemade fennel sausage...worth the hours of wait under the blazing Phoenix sun...we alway over order so that we can take the extra home

I got the Wise Guy when we went. It was really good, but my g/f's Rosa seemed to be the winner the night we dined there. Despite it's name, it's a white pizza. You can't go wrong with either, though. :)

                2. We love Florencia's Tuscany Pizza... Onions and salami.

Oh, ditto. For the longest time I was stuck in the Flaumbay rut, but the Tuscany is also worth ordering. It's funny -- pizza is just about my biggest food obsession, and I'm so impressed with Florencia -- I'm continually surprised it is so overlooked here.

Of venues not yet mentioned there's Nonna's Favorite at Picazzos, if we can include a local chain, and Grazie has the Sofia, with smoked mozzarella.

                  2. Either Pizzeria Bianco or Slices.

                    1. Definitely the Red Devil White. A nice thin crust, fresh garlic & roma tomatoes. MMMMM

                      1. Miele's in Tempe has a good white pizza. It's right across the street from Changing Hands Bookstore, which makes for a nice dinner before/after events they have there.

I second the recommendation for Miele's - their white pizza is delicious (along with their other pizzas). We've been going there since they opened about four years ago and it is consistently good.

                        2. Spinato's Margherita is a white pie and to die for.

                          1. I will second the Biancoverde at Bianco's. So good. The Arugula makes that pie.

The Biancoverde was a HUGE it with one of our party when we went. It was all about the Arugula for him as well.

                            2. The Best White Pizza"Bianco" is at La Piazza Al Forno. This pizza is as good as Pizzeria Bianco without the 3 hour wait. It is located in downtown Glendale and is fairly new. Their White Pizza is unbelievable....I'm from New Jersey and very fussy about pizza and Italian Food this place is the best I have found. Forgedaboutit La Piazza Al Forno wins hands down. Also, their Italian food is Motto Bene..... Try their specials I had Fruitti de Mare the price was great and the taste even better.
This place has everything good food and great pizza.

                              1. How are we defining "white pizza" here? Anything without a red sauce base? I know there are quite a few interepretations, I just thought white pizzas lacked all tomatos, no?!

                                1. re: Kam7185

My general rule is anything without a red sauce. I don't eat regular tomatoes and usually just have them left off. I consider them more a topping.

                                2. Just went to humble pie last night. The shrimp pizza with basil and lemon zest was excellent. The shrimp was just cooked, while the tanginess of the lemon and the fresh basil lighten up the whole dish and made it perfect for a hot evening.

                                  1. Pulling this thread back up...

Took my mom to Pino's today for lunch after her dr. appt. We actually had never been there despite the fact we're at St. Joe's at least once a month.

We had her caregiver with us and the three of us decided to try the white pizza. They wanted to try the homemade sausage too so we added sausage to half of it.

The verdict all the way around the table was Delicious! The crust was very flavorful, thin yet chewy. As a white pizza...it was a fantastic version. Perfect balance of garlic and basil with the fresh tomatoes and mozzerella. The homemade sausage was very good(though I preferred the half without...but that's purely a personal preference).

We all decided it was lunch at Pino's from now on whenever we're down there. If you're in the neighborhood...definitely give the white pizza a try!

                                    1. White pie with ricotta, basil, olive oil, garlic, mozz, and thin sliced tomatoes at Mamma Mia 7th Street and Indian School. Make sure you have Anthony make as he does them the best.
