SD Restaurant Week 6/22 - 27 2008
We just made Open Table reservations at Arterra for Tues. and Laurel for Friday night 6/22-27. I thought I had seen something about some of the places extending the deal a second week. Now I don't find that. Anyone know anything about an extension? Any comments about our choices?
Can't go wrong with either of those, though if I was going to Del Mar I'd head to Market. Extension of the event usually happens after the week is over, when restaurants that weren't able to accommodate all requests for reservations try to keep the excitement going. Those are individual promos by the restaurant folks, not part of the official event.
If you would like to enjoy fresh finely prepared dinner for $30-40.00 any time, and don't want to wait to do it only a couple of times a year during Restaurant Week, then I would suggest you give La Fontana Italian Continental City Bistro a visit on 12845 Poway Rd, Poway, just East of Fwy I-15, Tue-Sun. There are extensive menus for Lunch and Dinner with many more Italian or Continental choices, then all the places mentioned on San Diego dining topics on this website, and would take many visits to sample the many dishes listed on those menus! You will not have to get tired of the dishes offered. I have already found several favorites for repeats. See the menus with pictures of the facilities on their website, www.lafontanaitaliancitybistro.com. Yes, you can eat very very well for a 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the haute cuisine choices, that repeatedly come up in most of the strings on Chowhound.com, when anyone asks for places to eat in San Diego. I have been to most of them, and to several more then a few times. Now with a reasonably priced restaurant like La Fontana, it is possible to eat well more often, and not have to take out a subprime loan on the house. :) The Thursday night Prix Fixe with a Salad or Soup, Choice of Beef, Seafood or Pasta, and Homemade Cheesecake for a finish at only $19.00 if more then satisfying. No need to settle for a lousy meal somewhere else. The dishes are definitely much better prepared and presented, then you would or should expect in a moderately priced establishment. The refined tastes are one of the things, which keep me coming back. I can not recommend enough for you to give it a try, if you like me are looking for a place to add to your list of rotations. I will be there a couple of times a week.
