Peanut Butter and Jelly Swirled in a Jar

A friend of mine asked if I remember the name of peanut butter and jelly in the same jar from the 1970's? I thought it might be called Google or something similar. I do remember the jingle said something about "goo goo googly eyes." My friend insists that it was called something else but he can't remember. If I recall correctly it also came in peanut butter & chocolate as well. Thanks in advance.

Yup. It's Goober all right, all zebra-like and tasty. Click on image below to enlarge.

Thought it was "Kugel" or "Koogle" (not in the same sense Yiddish speakers use the word, just a goofy brand name).

I even remember the commercial (voiced by the underappreciated Marshall Efron).

I could swear I saw a jar in the store recently, but - since I am a very accomplished cook - I am capable of making a pB&J sandwich from basic ingredients, and don't use this stuff.

Oh, it's definitely Goober--my little sis liked that stuff, and Fruit Roll-Ups, too. I always thought PB & J in a jar was one of the Signs of the Apocalypse (two others being pre-packaged Rice Krispie Treats and Squeeze Butter).

"With a name like Smuckers, it's got to be good."

The grape and strawberry Goober were pretty good.

About this product, I remember a comedian joking they should just throw croutons into the jar and do away with the sandwich all together.

LOL. Add the croutons, and you have your starch, protein, and fruit, all in one jar. A well balanced meal. That comedian must double as a nutritionist.

The Aldi stores by me have their own brand with grape jelly. I never tried it, nor had a had the original.

Depending on what exactly you are remembering.....

Goober is the swirled peanut butter and jelly.
Koogle was a "flavored" peanut butter....no jelly swirl. It did come in chocolate, however, as well as banana and cinnamon.

Kim, there was mention of Koogle in this thread. That's probably the reference you were making to the 'goo goo googly eyes'. Take a look at the label and see for yourself.

Does anyone know where, in Toronto, I can get peanut butter and jelly in a jar?
