Cantler's - Annapolis MD
I was in Maryland for a few days last week with two colleagues due to work. One of guys was visiting from Sweden, and while he's been in the US many times, it's typically the usual stops in the major cities. So, knowing he's a big sailor back in Stockholm, we decided to head over to Annapolis late in the afternoon on Wednesday (the day the big storm blew through with tornado watches). It was good to walk around a while in Annapolis between deluges, and he got to see a side of the US that you can't get in NYC, WDC, etc. He also of course loved all the boats. We decided to stay in the area for dinner and ended up at Cantler's. Although it was a dark and stormy Wednesday night, the place was packed. Despite being told it was a 30 minute wait for a table outside (the plastic windows were down due to the rain and wind), I'm glad we did. After only 15 minutes -- one can of Yuengling Black & Tan each (no draft beer at Cantler's) at the bar -- we were seated. We started with a shared starter of drunken mussels, which were cooked perfectly. Then we all chose the lump crab cakes (the platter serving comes with two crab cakes), which were delicious. No filler, just sweet crab. The hushpuppies were a just a little overcooked, but still tasty. Meanwhile, the storm and wind and lightning raged around us. Since my friend from Sweden never had fresh crabs, we ordered a half dozen of the large (only large and extra large that night) and split them to finish up. We all had a great time cracking away. Recommended.
