Downtown Vegas--famous (good) cheap eats?
Traveling next week for a week long stay at the Monte Carlo. Being on a budget, always looking for good cheap eats in old downtown Vegas. Being an infrequent visitor, I am aware that some of the downtown casinos have some legendary good deals, but is the food good?

Binions has a deli that on the west side of the hotel. Do not go to the snack bar near the table games. The deli has 1/2 pound sandwiches (meaning 1/2 pound of meat). They use Boars Head coldcuts. This includes potato salad and pickle spear for $6.95 (including tax is $7.50). They even can do the sandwich to go. They also have a decnt burger. They claim to buthcher their meat on premises and use sirloin for the burger. The only problem is no fries, only potato salad (why does this remind me of John Belushi?)

The most legendary downtown deal, IMO, and the best, is the $.99 shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate downtown. The menu price is actually $1.99 now, but if you show a slot club membership card (it is free to join) the price is still less than $1. They are delicious, IMO.
The deli sandwiches at Golden Gate are great too.
For finer dining, Roberta's at the El Cortez is a classic Vegas steakhouse with very reasonable prices.
I also highly recommend the 777 brewpub at Main Street Station. Microbrews and good pub food.
