Roadtrip recommendations

  • 1

I will be traveling out of State later this summer, heading back to my Southern roots. The only time I have driven out of State has been in a hurry, and not designed around a leisurely road trip/eating fest.

From Ft. Lauderdale, I will be taking the turnpike up to Orlando, then 75 to 10, and then 10 West. I have some fabulous stops planned once I enter the panhandle, but always wonder what good food I may be missing along the way.

Recommendations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner available along this route welcome!! I am looking for GOOD FOOD and do not consider that to be anything relating to "fast" or "cracker barrel." Ideas?

  1. A couple of weeks ago, we traveled from Melbourne to Panama City. In Ocala, we got of the Turnpike and hit Hwy 27 north, and then got on Hwy 98 west. While we didn't have time to eat anywhere, we did spot many places that looked interesting- lot's of older BBQ places on the 27 part and then lots of crab shacks, oyster houses, etc on the 98 leg.

It looked interesting enough to make a road trip just to try the places!

By the way, if you do go this route, save some room for Hunt's Oyster Bar in Panama City (not Panama City Beach). Best oysters I have ever eaten bar none!
