Lander, WY, Cody, WY & W.Yellowstone MT trip

  • 2

We are road tripping the kids up to the in-laws in Lander, WY this week. Planning on an adult-only trip to Yellowstone. We'll be in West Yellowstone, MT one night and Cody one night. Any suggestions for dining along the way? We like everything. I know that we'll have pizza one night from Tony's Pizza in Lander. Their pizza is great and the kids love their bread sticks. The roof top dining area is fun, too. We will also try for lunch or dinner at El Sol de Mexico, basic but good Mexican in a family-friendly atmosphere. May try to get out one night to Svilar's Bar & Dining Room. Haven't ever been there but it used to be a regular stop for the in-laws. They say it's declined in recent years but since it's probably been 5+ years since they went last, we may give it a whirl.

For our adult mini-trip, we're driving from Lander through Dubois and Moran Junction to the south entrance of Yellowstone. We'll be looking for breakfast and dinner places in West Yellowstone, MT, as we are spending the night after hiking Yellowstone National Park. We're staying longer in Cody and would welcome ideas for all meals. I think there is a continental breakfast at the Cody Cowboy Village where we are staying but it is coffee, cereal and maybe some limited fresh fruit. When we leave Cody, we're driving down to Thermopolis for the afternoon and into Lander again that night.

When possible, we like to eat at local restaurants and help support local businesses. I'd like to know where the locals go when they don't want fast food. As I said, we'll eat anything, and we are actually looking forward to having some meals that include elk, bison, rocky mountain oysters, etc.

I hope the collective foodie brain can help with recommendations!

  1. About 10 miles north of West Yellowstone on Hwy 191, you will find Eino's Tavern. It's a cook-it-yourself place for steak, chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. They prepare the salads and sides. It looks out over Hebgen Lake with an outside deck, so sometimes there's a wildlife show. It has really good food and I hit it everytime I'm in West Yellowstone.
