Food Delivery/Catering in Orange County

  • 2

We're throwing our daughter's 1st birthday party at our neighborhood clubhouse, and I need some suggestions for food delivery and/or catering options. I'm willing to pick up the food if the place is near my house (Irvine). We'll probably have around 30 people at this event.

It will be just a casual pool party, and I'd like to keep the costs down as much as possible. At first I thought about hiring a taco caterer, but I don't think our association would be OK with having someone cook inside the clubhouse (there's no kitchen, and no easy place to set up outside). I also thought I could keep costs down by serving appetizers or finger foods. Even nicely made sandwiches (not Subway) and salads would be perfectly fine with me. There won't be many older kids at this party so keeping it child-friendly is not a concern.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Catering is going to your most expensive option compared to food you pick up. Since it sounds you'll need to rely on a mobile kitchen, I'm say call In N' Out or TK Burger. Both have burger trucks, but 30 people sounds like a small function for them and you may not meet their minimum.

I don't know where in Irvine you live and how far you're willing to drive to pick up food. Don't know that delivery is an option except for businesses that are very near you, and you're probably aware of those already.

You might try Lee's Sandwiches. They bake their own baguettes, and make both Vietnamese style sandwiches or more American type fillings. Both are pretty solid. Not brilliant, but lots better than Subway or its ilk. The Irvine store is across from UCI campus. There's also another location in Lake Forest on El Toro & Rockfield.

In Tustin is Zon Baguette, another Vietnamese owned banh mi shop. Here too, you can get Viet fillings or American ones. They're on Newport Ave a couple blocks south of the 5.

At either store, you can also get Viet eggrolls, which would be popular. Both are pretty low cost. You can feed a horde for very little at either.

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't even think about Lee's as an option (mmm eggrolls!), and it's close enough for me to pick it up the day of the event. I live close to Gelsons so I might use their deli to get some fruit/cheese platters too.
