Carnitas in Santa Monica?

Cora's Coffee Shop
1802 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica 90401
Btwn Seaview Ter & Vicente Ter
Phone: 310-451-9562

I've eaten at Cora's Coffee Shop quite a few times. Good food - good prices. However the other day I was *VERY* surprised.

I love Carnitias. I've lived in Boyle Heights and have tried the best of the best. So I was surprised when I ordered the Carnitas in a Coffee Shop, in Santa Monica, of all places, and found them amazingly juicy and remarkably flavorful.

I talked to the cook who said the flavor and texture came from slow roasting the spiced pork on a rotisserie for about 4 hours. This allows a natural crust to form versus the traditional deep fried approach. If you are a Carnitas fan - add this to your list of must tries.

You just gotta LOVE great Carnitas!

I'll definitely give it a try while in LA this year. We don't have anything like this in SC.

This place is an understated coffee shop serving very good food. Here's an explanation and more info:

OK, as a pork lover, I'm interested, though skeptical. How do they serve them? As a combo with rice and beans or in a taco or? Any good salsa or hot sauce? Cost?

They come on a platter with corn tortillas and beans and guacamole. I don't recall the salsa as being anything remarkable, I just remember that the entire plate worked well together. I was with a group so I don't remember the exact price. I'm guessing it was about $10.00. If you go let me know what you think.
