Instant Espresso Powder; Suffolk Cty.

Was just in Fairway in Plainview; plenty of canned espresso, but I didn't see instant espresso powder, which is called for in many baking recipes. Where can I get this stuff locally?

  1. I get it at all different regular grocery stores. I think Waldbaums last time. The only brand I know is Medalgia di Oro, with the greeen label.
P.S. It's great mixed in with plain yogurt, although if you put in a full teaspoon you'll get quite a buzz.

Does it say "instant" on the can, or just "espresso"? Maybe I'm staring right at it and just don't realize.

It's not a can, it's a little glass bottle (2 oz) with a green top. The label is green, white and red striped. It says MEDAGLIA D'ORO in big letters and under it Instant Espresso Coffee. If you're looking by the Folgers cans and whatnot, that's probably why you don't see it, it's usually in a weird out of the way spot, maybe by the Postum or something.

Well, that makes some sense. I definitely have never seen a tiny bottle. And I was just in both Stop and Shop and Fairway, and didn't see it anywhere in the coffee section or baking sections.

By the way, is this a liquid?

It's a powder, and it'll be in the coffee section. I'd be surprised if Stop and Shop doesn't have it.

Maybe I'm going blind. Lot's of Medaglia d'Oro "for espresso makers", no tiny bottles labeled "instant".

Just went to my local S&S; they had a labeled spot for it on the shelf, but no bottles.

        1. If you can't find it in a traditional supermarket, you may want to seek out Uncle Giuseppe's on Route 111 in Smithtown, sort of Fairway with an italian accent. they also have stores in East Meadow and Port Washington
