Going to Naples in a few weeks, any good recommendations? We have eaten at a restaurant on the water in Tin City and got violently ill after eating tuna, so not there please! We like anything, Italian, American, Mexican, Steakhouse, a chain restaurant will suffice too, as long as it is top quality...thanks!
Chophouse is very good. Try Truluck's for seafood, Roy's for fish.
My absolute favorite restaurant in Naples though is The Greek Gourmet. The building is kind of non-descript, on Tamiami Trail, across from the hospital and next to a Dairy Queen. It's owned by two Greek guys and is the best Greek food I've had anywhere.
Trulucks- upscale, good solid seafood (esp stone crab). Not incredibly inventive, ranges on the classic side.
Campiello- classic italian (not american-italian) had a wonderful meal here, from wine to dessert. Fresh pasta is fantastic! Service is impeccable, altho the wait can often be long- make reservations if possible and prepare to belly up to bar for pre dinner drinks.
USS Nemo- Shockingly good meal. As 2 dining couples at another table put it- we are here for a week, have been vacationing together for 10 years and this is the first place we ever came to twice! Its in a nondescript strip mall, and has a unique twist to seafood and steaks. Absolutly loved the Sea Bass.
Roys- Hawaiian Fusion chain, high end and very tasty.
Sunburst Cafe- great pastries and breakfast place. In a Target plaza (btwn Target and Bealls I believe), very homey, eclectic place. Lots of diff coffees and cappucinos that are really great! Beautiful atmosphere.
All places in Naples could be considered dressy casual. You probably won't feel overdressed unless you go black tie. On the contrary, khakis and a polo with deck shoes or sandals are also ok. Ladies can go simple skirt or capris and top or get real dressy, sweater sets are very "in", sandals are ok anywhere!
Have fun, and enjoy the beach!
I totally agree with Campiello for great Italian and Truluck's for stone crab (but can you get them now? Not sure!) Campiello and Truluck's are both downtown...USS Nemo on 41 North also excellent for fresh fish..for Mexican: well, Maria's in Bonita Springs is great...humble, but great!
Bonita Springs is just north of Naples. Had a fantastic dinner at Wyld's last trip -- excellent service and upscale American/Continental food, most entrees in the very low $20s. If you get up to Fort Myers, my favorite in the area is Sasse's, for Italian food from a gorgeous woodburning oven. Excellent eggplant parm, veal marsala, and pork tenderloin, and huge salads that a whole table can share.
Just got back from Naples, and you were right, jme1beachbum, USS Nemo was out of this world! We were staying on Tamiami Trail and it was down the street from us. We ordered the sea bass and volcano snapper, spicy and Indian style. All three dishes were absolutely delicious! We also had key lime cheesecake and lemongrass vanilla creme brulee which were also wonderful. The setting was lovely, and the service impeccable. The night before we ate pizza at Peppino's, a cozy Italian restaurant in a strip mall also on Tamiami Trail, in the same plaza as Publix. The pizza was very nice!
I can't wait to go back to Naples!
Best on 5th Ave - Chops (steak, fusion), Pazzo (Italian), Cafe Lurcat (general +banana French toast dessert), Trulucks (seafood). Best steakhouse (pricey) - Preston's. Best seafood - Captain Nemo's. Best French/atmosphere - Bleu Provence. Enjoy!
