La Scarpetta-thumbs down
Two SF hounds hit La Scarpetta one week after opening. As yet there had not been any reviews so we took a chance. I must say it was a big thumbs down for us.
First-with reservations made a week in advance, the two of us(late 50's women) arrived on time and were greeted by a woman quite young who addressed us with: Do you guys want to sit at the bar first or be seated at your table?(you guys?)
We were then escorted into a near empty dining room and promptly seated right next to the service buffet. I asked for a change in table. We were then led to a table right next to the door to the wine cellar(which opens frequently).
Waitstaff was disorganized(somewhat to be expected in the first weeks) but this was especially disorganized. Staff was either falling over one another or lost in action.
Our food was a major disappointment. Fritto Misto arrived so heavily salted it was not edible. We sent it back while I ate my appetizer and my dining companion waited for her new fritto misto. This time it was done properly but we were charged. A nice gesture would have been to comp something given the uneven dining times.
