Brentwood Farmer's Market
I stopped by the Sunday farmer's market in Brentwood to get some Moonpillow mochi last week . I was surprised to see so many food and merchandise vendors besides fresh farm produce. It's almost like a street fair. Besides those delicious pillowy mochis, any other worthy chow to check out?
The food vendors are not always the same, but the pupusas and tamales have been good when I have tried them. Someone told me they have had bacon wrapped hot dogs there, but I haven't seen them.
I was just there this weekend and we grabbed a few things, sat down and had a nice quick family lunch. (a la bonne franquette as we say in french).
I had bought some good cheese bread, some domaldes(stuffed grape leaves), some delicious kettle corn and some really, really awesome grilled chicken skewers.(you can't miss the places, older man with baseball hat in front of a rather large grill, the order booth is a tent made out of blue tarps).
It's a lot of fun with the kids and grownups alike. And their produce isn't bad.
I just wish people would abide by the no dogs allowed policy though, i'm sick of stepping on lil lap dogs every 3 minutes.
I personally love the dried fruit and roasted nut vendor. They have the BEST raisins, they are largest raisins i have ever seen! i also like the new spring roll vendor. they have a great jumbo vegetarian roll wrapped in rice paper. So good! i'm also a fan of the produce, great berries, squash, herbs and colored cauliflower this time of year.
I LOVE this market - the produce is always sooo good and fresh, and the vendors incredibly knowledgable. Better to hit this one on the earlier side, as apparently Brentwood and other folk hit it early and really leave less selection for later, or maybe that's just been my experiences...
Last time I was there, I got some great eggplant and squash that were incredibly sweet and delectable.
