Taco trucks in Bradenton, Fl.

  • 3

There used to be a Taco truck, parked at a mattress store, on 14th st. (41) just north of Bob Evans across from the new Lowes that had the best authentic tacos I've every had.
For some reason, the truck has been gone for over a year and I thought I'd post here to see if anyone knew of where the truck relocated or if anyone knows of another good one in the Bradenton/ Sarasota area. It was inexpensive and absolutely delicious.

Thanks in advance.
Rob

  1. It's been a few years since I lived in that area, but my favorites were Maria's Mexican at the Red Barn Flea Market and Tacos La Cholita, next door to a small grocery at 5615 15th St. E., Oneco. I'm not sure if either is still there. I remember the one you're talking about. I believe it was called Tacos El Grullense. If you're looking for others, it would probably just be worth cruising through Oneco on the weekend and keeping your eyes peeled. Acapulco Tropical at 3517 1st St. in Bradenton also had some pretty good tacos. Let us know what you find.

I frequently ( as in last Saturday, again) go to Marias in The Red Barn for a weekend mexican lunch. It's only open Fri-Sat-Sun now in the off season. Very good and authentic quesadillas, tamales, gorditos, and shrimp soup bowls, plus 3 fresh sauces you scoop from molcajetes- mild avocado, tomatillo, and a nicely piquant red sauce.
The Acapulco Tropical 1/3 mile south is mostly a latin market but has a prepared section in the back right with some seating with a variety of mexican items, many in big warmer trays. That's where I buy my take-out rotisserie chickens that look like bowling balls with wings, and they come with a half kilo of fresh pressed, warm corn tortillas and 3 cups of sauce, all for $6. Best deal in town.

        Thanks guys!!!
I went to La Cholita for lunch today and had the pork tacos which were FANTASTIC!! Very similar to the old taco truck I described above.
Can't wait to try Maria's this weekend.

        Adios,
        Rob
