What's great near Embarcadero (north fin. dist.) for dining alone in the evening?

Will be there on business in July, with most of an evening to pass. What's a great, interesting spot for catching an evening meal by myself? (Embarcadero area, technically north part of the financial district.)

I like a lot of things, would be up for really great Thai or Vietnamese (or other Asian), or fresh, tasty seafood, or make a suggestion!

(I won't have a car with me so something in walking distance or within a couple BART stops would be great.)

Bonus points if it's a dining spot in an interesting, safe, lively evening walking area.

Globe-on Pacific@battery has a small bar but there are always solo diners. I eat there often alone and the bartenders are friendly and the food is awesome. Open until 1am.
It's mediteraanean influenced "local"cuisine. Fresh and yummy. Always a lively interesting crowd. It's safe in the evening.

I love Kokkari on Jackson Square but I've never eaten alone there. Excellent Mediterranean cuisine.
Bix is also nearby and they have a lively bar scene. Food is great there as well. Traditional American cuisine.
At the Ferry Building is The Slanted Door which serves Vietnamese cuisine. They have a bar but it is always packed and I find the restaurant to be too noisy for my tastes. It gets rave reviews, but I personally wouldn't go back.
If you like Oysters, Hog Island Oyster Company is in the ferry building and they also have a nice bar and a great view. It is one of my favorite places to go but they close pretty early.

Go to Tadich Grill. Eat at the bar. Talk to the person next to you. Order petrale or sand dabs or Hangtown fry. Precede any of those with a gin martini. With the fish drink a glass of sauvignon blanc. After dinner walk to the foot of California Street and look at the water. Help turn a cable car, You'll be safe and well fed. Cheers!

epic roasthouse. a few blocks (think bay bridge) from the ferry terminal. next to the goofy bow and arrow sculpture along the embarcadero.

no need for a reservation. go upstairs to the bar and grab a spot. decent salumi, decent fritto misto. very good drinks. barkeep is outstanding. full menu is available. bonus points for you if you are a serious meat lover.

the views out to the bay and the bay bridge are really special. give it a shot.

Reports on Epic have been extremely mixed.
