Where is anyone's best recommendation to take a date for a really special cocktail?

My favorite bar is in the upstairs cocktail area of Starlite on 4th and Colorado. Great service, fantastic atmosphere and delicious drinks. I actually have a cocktail blog on where to get a fabulous drink, www.fabulousdrinksaustin.blogspot.com

I really should not be contributing because I know next to nil on the subject but I have read good things about Belmont. It has a world rating according to some poll. From what I have read about it, it is the place I would hang and I am a cool guy.

A Mexican Martini is always fun in the summer and the best ones in Austin are at Cedar Door and Trudy's. But those are very laid back places, so if you're looking to impress, you might want to go to Saba and order one of their signature, brightly colored drinks.

And careful with the Mex Martinis - they are strong at both places. A two shaker limit....

I do have questions about Trudy's. I have seen them on several occasions, during happy hour, pour the mexican martinis and the regular margaritas from the SAME container. Essentially a margarita in a martini glass, with olives.

This is the recipebazaar version of Trudy's.

        Ingredients
        2 fluid ounces tequila
        1 fluid ounce Cointreau liqueur
        1-2 fluid ounce Sprite
        1 fluid ounce orange juice
        1/2 lime, juice of

My favorite summer cocktail WAS the Brentwood Breeze. A concoction invented for me at Brentwood Tavern.
