Indian in the downtown core

My friend is coming in from Amarillo TX. He used to live in San Franciso and is in dire need of non-chain eating. I am looking for Indian in the downtown core, but am open to other suggestions. Looking for about $100 before tax, tip and alcohol.

Trimurti on Queen a couple of blocks west of University is my choice.
Shouldn't be more than $50 before tax and tip.

Dhaba is a bit more upscale tho they have a cheaper lunch buffet.

        Trimurti over Dhaba any day.
Definitely Trimurti, I love that place.

        Also think about...
        The Host - yorkville
        Babur - queen west

          Trimurti Trimurti....
It's my favourite place for Indian...but not super fancy.... Although The Host may be a little more upscale for an out of towner...

My go-to Indian spot downtown is Little India on Queen West near John. Trimurti is almost right next door and receives rave reviews as well. Both are very casual and will come in well under $100 for two, even with a few beers.

Slightly more formal and expensive is The Host just north of the ROM near Avenue & Bloor. They've been around for a long time and serve pretty consistent Indian.

You might also want to read through this very long thread on Indian in Toronto; it started a couple years ago but the bottom half contains many comments from earlier this year: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/105185

Kathmandu on Yonge, just north of College. Try the Butter Chicken and the Lamb Sali Bothi (with dried apricots and potato sticks) very good. Dinner for two should run you about $45.
