  1. Hearth will be twice the cost and the food twice as good. Mermaid has declined significantly in the past 2 years. I would go with Hearth is the cost is not a deterarent

I wholeheartedly agree with princeofpork: the food at Hearth is much, much better. I didn't eat at Mermaid Inn until two years ago, but every location I've ever been forced to dine at has been terrible, in the last two years. Food is just bland and uninspired.

      2. totally different price points and atmosphere.

hearth is a bit more somber...which is weird because i think theyre trying to do something upscale but always is way quiet there. the food is merely ok...portions are quite large but its a bit expensive considering im never wowed by the food.

mermaid inn isnt amazing but its a solid choice and depending on the night, can be pretty bustling and fun. that said, they dont have a large oyster selection and i usually end up with the lobster sandwich...good fries and wine prices though.

        1. I have not been to Hearth, but it generally gets good recognition on this board. I would not recommend Mermaid, the food is mediocre, space tight, and the noise can be deafening.

          1. i was not impressed by hearth. i also didn't think the portions were large, especially for the price. i've never been to mermaid inn so i can't comment. is there a reason these are your only 2 options. there are so many good spots in the ev.

            1. mermaid inn makes a decent lobster roll, that's all i can really contribute.

I don't know what qualifies as "decent", but my partner had it and it was small and bland for $24.
