Hingham to get a Fresh Market

A Patriot Ledger article says they will be opening a 24,000 sq ft store in the Hingham Shipyard. Anyone have any input on the stores? I've never heard on them before and from what I've read this morning on Chowhound its more expensive and not as nice as Whole Foods. It will be nice to have such a selection now with the Fruit Center down the street and a Whole Foods and the new Prevites within 5 miles plus Stop and Shop across the street.

Off topic, who is going to pay $875,000 to live next to a movie theater, Bed, Bath and Beyond and Old Navy.

I do a charity dinner in Hilton Head every year, and man am I glad for Freshmarket! Amid the culinary wasteland that is Hilton Head, South Carolina, Freshmarket is a treasured find. Do I prefer it to Whole Foods? It's different. It's more like a really nice Wild Oats, if there was such a thing. I would definitely shop there, though.

Interesting. There is a Fresh Market in Jacksonville Florida near my mom, which has been successful only because they don't (yet) have a Whole Foods. I find their selection OK--they focus more on the foodie stuff and less on the natural stuff than Whole Foods. There are some nice smaller brands that you can't get at WF due to artificial ingredients, preservatives, etc that FM will carry. I can't remember how the prices compare, but my sense is that it's just as expensive but not as upscale as Whole Foods? I can't quite imagine them successfully competing here. (That Fresh Market is shaking in their bones, because in that geographically massive city, a Whole Foods is opening up less than a mile away).

I shopped at Fresh Market when I lived in Virginia. It's not as upscale as Whole Foods, and doesn't have as many organic or natural choices, but the prices were better and they had much better variety for staple items. I do think WH has better produce, but Fresh Market was decent. The one I shopped at had a nice salad bar and a decent beer and wine selection - unfortunately we can't hope for the latter up here in MA!

This is cool news, thanks for sharing. It will be great to have another market close to home. I have never shopped at one and the first time I ever heard of Fresh Market was when they made the contenstants of Top Chef do all their shopping there one season.
