I remember going to Santa Monica in great anticipation of going to Benitas Fritas and getting a bunch of fries and a bunch of dips and just munching out!

Does anyone have any french fry places like that? been searching to no avail....how I miss them great fries...

  1. Not really. But the Oinkster's fries with garlic mayonaise can be pretty good when they're still hot.

There was a place in Long Beach that happened to do Belgian fries a while back. And Benita's Frites has been gone from the Promenade for the better part of a decade. It set up shop for a couple years at the Universal City and then closed after a while altogether.

        order them well done though!

ya, oinksters is good...really good... but was hoping someone knew of a "specialty" place.

        2. Hi... On a good day, the fries at Skooby's (in Hollywood) can aspire to that laudable spudly summit that was Benitas. On a bad day, not so much. A quick prayer to the tuber gods can't hurt, if ya go...

Ima gonna sheck it out! I will pray to Lord Tuber for his blessing!

          2. Sorry that I don't have any leads for you, but I'm glad to hear someone else who loved their fries as much I did, I thought Benitas Fritas' were the absolute best fries ever.

            1. North End in Manhattan Beach has fries with several different dipping sauces. Do not confuse with North End in Hermosa Beach - very different experiences.

Looked at the menu and this is a definite stop the next time I am in the area. Their breakfast menu also looked interesting (The Eggs from Hell seemed like they would "wake up" my taste buds for sure). Thanks for the heads up.

Just remember closed on mon and tues. and also closed for dinner so probably about 7 or 8am until 3pm.

looks like a plausible sub for Benitas...but do they have mayo dipping sauces, too?

                  1. re: Diana

I am sorry to say that I have not actually tried the fries...I just knew they had them. The mojo sauces may be mayo based. I've actually had breakfast a few times. Very good, and really good lattes in huge cups.

Its just down the block from me. I eat lunch there from time to time. I would not consider it a destination place for fries. But there solid..

                3. The last place that I went to was Hollywood Fries near UCLA. Danny Glover owned it the last time I was there and I actually met him once at Benitas Fritas on 3rd street when they were still around. It's been awhile so you might want to google it and see if Hollywood Fries is still around. :)

Nope it's gone for a couple of years now. I never actually got to go but that was a place mentioned when I cam about 6 years ago.
