I will be in L.A. for the next two weeks and am anxious to have a delicious mug of hot chocolate, preferably with a wonderful (maybe homemade) marshmallow. I live in S.F. and love the hot chocolate from Citizen Cake -- very chocolatey and creamy, not too sweet, with one big possibly homemade marshmallow floating on top. Any advice for L.A.?

Call Clementine, I think they may have a nice cup o' hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows. The food is pretty groovy there too. Love their scones and cupcakes too.

For something way different, try the champurrado at Gueleguetza on 8th. It's like a cross between atole and hot chocolate.

Not to everyone's taste esp. if your idea of the exquisite is an ok high tea.

I fell on my sword (or fork?) today and tried the cocoa at Clementine...always trying to be helpful to an out-of-city chowhound.

Hot chocolate Regular size $3.25 is pre-made and refrigerated. Hot chocolate is steamed to order on the espresso machine and three small homemade marshmallows are placed on top. Hot chocolate tastes of both melted chocolate and cocoa, in a not to rich base, mostly whole milk I think. I ate one marshmallow: gooey, sweet, with some texture and a hint of vanilla. Perfect. Unfortunately, I lost the other two in my travel cup. Drat. I suggest asking for extra marshmallows and not taking it to go.
