i think i saw it on the menu at BRENTWOOD on Barrington and I think everything there is good so I wouldn't hesitate to try it, along with their amazing dark chocolate, bread pudding desert.

I am a die hard 'The Grill On The Alley" steak tartare fan. It is just the best. But, last week at Mistral's Restaurant on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, my wife ordered their Steak Tartare. Now my wife is a stone cold culinary snob. She was blown away. She was in tartare heaven. So, of course I had to have a try. She was correct. Simply fabulous. It rivaled The Grill. Besides the dinner being terrific, the tartare was the best in SoCal (outside of Beverly Hills).

I had a very good tartare at SimonLA recently. If I remember correctly, it was done two ways -- a chopped up pile of steak molded into a short cylinder (tuna tartare style) and then some thinly-sliced carpaccio.
But the best tartare I've had in recent memory in LA was at Cliff's Edge in Silver Lake. Incredibly flavorful beef topped with some salt, olive oil, and parmesan. Simple and delicious.

If you are looking for something a little different, Carousel has a Lebanese version of steak tartare that I thought was quite good (I don't normally eat it so I don't know how it compares to others but I enjoyed it.) I know that they serve it at the Glendale store but don't know about Hollywood.
