The Continental in Philly

My wife is going there with some friends and would like to know what kind of place it is, especially cost. We looked at the menu and it looks decent but she is freaked out because they don't have prices.

The Continental in Old City is definitely more of a "small plates" type of place. The best thing for your wife and her friends to do would be to order 2 or 3, especially if one is a salad. I once ordered 3 (a salad and two others, including a quesadilla type of dish) with a friend and it was quite simply too much for us. The drinks are a little pricey, but nothing mindblowing. And they're quite tasty, so they're worth it.
To sum up: share 2 or 3 orders, only get 1 or 2 drinks. That should keep the bill down :)

Which Continental? Old City or Midtown? I prefer mid-town Continental, they have a nice roof top bar partially enclosed and an open space. However, if your wife and friends don't like the one in Old City, then there's plenty of other bar/restaurants on 2nd street and throughout Old City to bar hop.

The portions are HUGE and meant to be served family style. It is a fun place and the food is very resonably priced.

The portions are actually all over the place. Some of the dishes are huge - like the shoestring fries, and some of the salads for example which are like Cheesecake Factory huge. Some of the dishes are pretty small - the spanakopita is small enough that when I was there last month and ordered it the waitress actually warned me how small it was! It came in an eggroll style configuration and was basically 2 average-sized eggrolls cut in half - not even enough for everyone in the party to easily share.

It's more tapas than family style.

I agree with others that even with a couple of cocktails it's not a wallet-killer and it's a fun place to eat.

She's freaked out? It's not that expensive. Not sure how up to date this is, but here's a menu with prices: http://www.menutopia.com/GetMenu.m?ve...
Most expensive plate is like 20 bucks. Depending on drinks, one could probably spend less than $40. Now take a chill pill. ;-)

She was only freaked out because she doesn't know the place and we don't usually drop big bucks on dinner. She had no idea what the prices were.
