I am meeting a friend to see a movie tonight in the Morningside/401 area, and we are planning to meet and eat somewhere before. I am not familiar with this part of town at all. All recommendations on any type of food would be good, and entrees under $20 would be preferable. Thanks.

  1. It's a no man's land for fine dining. Swiss Chalet by Home Depot is actually not bad, one of their better spots. But if you're feeling adventurous, there are lots of good Chinese and Vietnamese places on Sheppard, heading west.

    1. If you are interested in pub grub the Fossil and Haggis (790 Military Trail) is just south of there at Morningside and Military Trail. Taking Military Trail to the southeast (left at the lights) leads you to Ellesmere Rd, take a left on Ellesmere and you'll hit a set of lights at Conlins Ave. Highland Fish and Chips (3357 Ellesmere Road) is good. In the village of Highland Creek you'll find Fratelli Village Pizzeria (384 Old Kingston Road) which is a nice spot in the last unit of a strip mall.

Beside the Swiss Chalet is a Mr Greek Express which isn't too bad either. There is a Caribbean place called Caribbean Wave in the same plaza as the Chalet and Mr Greek. It's a nice place to sit but the food is pretty average. I had the jerk chicken there once and it was ok. You get a mountain of rice with it so you can definitely fill up before the flick. It's licensed as well.

Otherwise you're stuck with Kelsey's or Boston Pizza in the immediate area.
