Miracle Fruit/Flavor-Tripping party in SoCal?

Hi all.

I just read this NY Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/28/din.... This looks so cool. I've dug around online and it looks like the only people selling the fruit are in Florida (and Asia).

Anyone in L.A. / O.C familiar with these? I'd love to try it. I'd go in with some other people to get together and order/try it.

When I was watching Top Chef last night I thought it would be great sabotage for a chef to lace their dish with this so that the dishes that come after them are all screwed up. They'd probably be caught pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure the arboretum in arcadia has some specimens. call them up.
look up the botanic name as well.
