ISO great olives (Ottawa area)

Any idea where I can buy fantastic black olives in the Ottawa area? I just got back from Turkey, and I'm craving the great cured olives that were everywhere - wrinkly little ones, nothing like the supermarket monsters!

There are beautiful olives at George's Meat Market, a middle eastern food shop in a little old mall on Montreal Rd., on the right side just after you cross the bridge going east from Rideau St. This same mall has a vast Chinese supermarket called the Uni Food Mart, so it is quite a fun outing for a foodie.

There is also the Mid-East Food Centre at 1010 Belfast Rd., just off St. Laurent. I have not actually shopped for olives there, but it is a wonderful place to buy tahini and pita and marinated chicken, and I bet they'd have good olives too. Again, this shop is in a mall which features another great store: St. Laurent Produce, a fine place to shop for fruits and vegetables.

Finally, I think La Bottega in the Byward Market sometimes stocks the wrinkled black olives you're looking for.

Hope you can find something that measures up to your memories!
