Keller Restauarant Recommendations

As resident of Keller, I know how woefully deficient we are for good restaurants. We ususally head downtown Fort Worth or Southlake to go out. But, we have found a couple of local favorties that I want to share with anyone looking.

BBQ: Up In Smoke on Main St is just fanastic. We love the brisket, turkey, hot links, etc. Great beer batter for their fried mushrooms and onion rings. It caters to a biker and nascar croud, but the food is great.

Mexican: El Taco H/Baja Grill on Tarrant Parkway and Whitley Rd. (Same shopping center as Albertson's) Great brisket tacos, fish tacos, taco salad, churro beans, and a variety of hot sauces. Did I mention the margaritas? Delicious!

American; Manny G's on Keller Parkway (1709) Great little locally owned restaurant with a full bar, great sandwiches, soups, etc. This has turned into a weekday favorite for us to grab a quick and quality dinner.

  1. After hearing much ado about Up In Smoke over the years, I tried it out last weekend. I was happy to see that they offered a sampler plate consisting of brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey and pulled pork - all smoked of course.

The ribs, sausage and brisket were all excessively dry. Had it just been one meat, I'd have chalked it up as a fluke, but all three leads me to believe this to be the norm. As for the turkey, it had been brined and while the initial taste was flavorful, by the time I had the third bite, it became very salt intensive, and I really detected no smoke. The pork had an off taste and that's all I'll say about that. Needless to say, I left disappointed and unfulfilled.

I've eaten both breakfast and dinner at Manny G's and it's a wonderful small town cafe. The restaurant itself is also very small and intimate with only about 6 or 8 table/booths in the dining area. The bar is separate and located at the other end of the converted house. As kk said, they offer a wonderful selection of eats, with white board plate specials in the evening. For the big eaters, they have a panini that has something like 6 different meats + cheese - however, for those with an aversion to Boar's Head this wouldn't be for you.
