Heads up on Munch - Sawtelle

In the space in the Olympic Collection on Sawtelle formerly occupied by the seemingly-doomed-from-the-start Babyblonde Waffles, there is a new place called Munch. They have prepackaged Asian dishes and a sign that says Vietnamese sandwiches. The people who run it are Thai - don't know what that means for the quality of the sandwiches, but it bodes well for quick Thai lunches in an area not known for such things.

We poked our head in last night after we had dinner at Place Yuu. I looked at the preprepared dishes and some looked good. I remember seeing a yellow curry (Thai curry) and pad see ew. We asked if they had any vegetarian dishes and they said that they had a vegetarian version of the yellow curry--and that was it...just one vegetarian dish so far. But it is clearly early days - they can't have been open for very long.

Don't bother. I beat you to it. The food is nothing to write home about. Curries were bland. More like a convenience mart than an eatery...

Trying to ride the coattails, (as very short as they may be) of Famima.

    2. seems like every biz that goes in that location doesn't do well. i hope this place does well. the concept sounds great and the location is pretty good as well. has anyone tried that crepe place around the corner (not the crepe nazi booth next to volcano tea but the actual crepe shop inside the olympic collection)?

        Heck yeah!

It's called Cafe Dusigne. My current favorite crepes in L.A. Within the Olympic Collection, it faces the Olympic Blvd. side.

        Get the Grand Marnier crepe.

BTW, there was one successful venture in that Munch space - Relaxtation (around 5-6 years ago!)

Agreed, the new crepe place on Olympic is better, and friendlier, than the crazy crepe guy in the Sawtelle/Mississippi mall. But I've never noticed any appreciable amount of business in there--can Sawtelle really support two crepe makers?

My wife misses Relaxtation a lot--they had these chewy red bean cake thingies that she hasn't been able to duplicate anywhere else in West LA.

      2. dag nabit... where am i going to get my tasty waffles now?

De Belgu has much, much better waffles than babyblonde ever hoped to have, AND they're still in business at:

          7275 Melrose Ave. #B
          Los Angeles, CA 90036

        2. the sandwiches here are amazing, ginormous, and only cost 3.95. i tried them for the 1st time a few weeks ago and i've gone back many times to try the different sandwiches. i highly recommend the chicken satay sandwich (peanut sauce is great), viet ham and pork loaf combo sandwich, spring rolls, and the watermelon smoothie. i also tried this carbonated apple cider drink in a yellow can with chinese characters that tasted great - better than martinellis. they need to open more of these locations!

          1. Does anyone know if Munch is still open?
The number above is "No Longer in Service" :(

When I drove by last week, it appeared to be closed (windows covered with paper).
