Good restaurants around Sunset 5

Only topics on this I could find are out-of-date. Any one have any good recent picks? Ideally walking distance -- but can drive. Like all kinds of food -- as long as there are fish/veggie options. Have done Cheebos which is fine. Gaucho Grill -- fine. Cafe Med -- more of a drive -- but okay. Marmont... Standard... Anything else? Would like to go somewhere new.

How about Il Sole on Sunset Strip. Of course, it is now owned by Bruce Marder, which means Pricey!

Are you sure of this? Last names of Hewitt and Beazley are more appropriate of at least the licensing issue. Il Sole has not sold since 2003, and Bruce Marder's name does NOT appear anywhere.

Pace on Laurel Canyon. Just 2 blocks up the hill. Romantic and good.
Or for a little darker fun try El Compadre on Sunset.

Thanks for the info on Vivoli. Ended up going to California Pizza Kitchen owning to lack of time. Don't get me started... Excited to try V next time.

Sushi Dan is in the same mall as Sunset 5 I believe. The Indian restaurant right next door to Coach and Horses is quite good.

How about Greenblatt's or the Griddle?

Griddle is really good for comfort food but it closes at 3pm. And if you go for brunch on the weekends, be prepared to wait unless you have an in with the owner.

Every time I drive by The Griddle on a Saturday or Sunday morning, there are TONS of people waiting outside to get it. It must be good for people to wait that long!

The Griddle is known for their HUGE portions and low prices. The prices have been steadily going up throughout the last few years but the portions have stayed constant. It's very sceney and you will always see some young celebs in there.

Vivoli is a really good Italian restaurant with some amazing pasta dishes. My favourite is the good old lasagna bolognese. If you do go at night, call for reservations because the space is soooo tiny tiny.

More casual, I would recommend Pinches Tacos (BYOB) and fancier I'd got to go with Bar Marmont.

No other restaurants to recommend around Sunset and Laurel Canyon? Doesn't have to be fancy... Has anyone tried that Italian restaurant in that same mini-mall as Gaucho Grill?

Pinches Tacos is quite good.
The Italian place in "the Gaucho Grill mini-mall" across Laurel from S5 is really excellent and a fantastic bargain,,,tho' I can't remember the name for the life of me.

The Italian place is called Vivoli and has a very devoted following, to the point they took over the Louise's Trattoria in Thousand Oaks recently.
Also note: Gaucho Grill is out of business at that location.
You could always go to Greenblatt's and do deli, which is actually quite good as deli goes.

I agree with Carter about Greenblatt's. Good food. Nice options like half sandwiches with soups and salads. And a very nice wine selection....not only by the glass, but very low corkage if you buy at the terrific in house shop.
They even have Screaming Eagle for $1999.99, with a sign that says "goes great with pastrami." I'm assuming they'd waive the corkage for that. Actually, they'd probably waive the pastrami, too......

Pinches Tacos. Interesting. On Sunset, east of Beachwood, correct? Doesn't seem like it's quite walking distance but not a bad drive and Mr. BB is always on the hunt for new taco places. Thx
