Trader Joes Beer

The label on the TJ Wheat beer says they brew and bottle their own beer. Is this accurate, or is it merely a private label like the rest of their products?

If you like Belgian-style beers/ales, TJ's Vintage Ale is pretty good as well. I've heard it's brewed by Unibroue - no slouch to good brews. I think it's around $5/750ml bottle. It is somewhat strong - not a light guzzling beer if that is what one is used to - just the opposite - I think around 8-9%, and has strong spice notes.

TJ's is strictly a marketer of goods. They put their name on so many products but I would guess most, if not all of their products are produced mostly by small to medium-sized businesses who are licensed to create and manufacture products under the TJ label.

I know many of the TJ labeled beers (6 packs) are actually Gordon Biersch including their Hefeweizen, I'm not sure if that is the beer you are referring to, regardless, I would bet it's private label.

Thanks for the quick replies. That is indeed the beer that I was referring to. (I cant spell in English, so I stay away from German)

Production facilities are of course a big capital investment. There are many in the food/bev biz that get shared between multiple users. TJ could easily own its own microbrewery, but if industrial volume is involved, it probably contracts a big brewery to make stuff for its specifications. Don't they answer questions like yours on their website or customer feedback line?
