Capirotada (Mexican Bread Pudding) in Phoenix?

Does anyone have a lead on where to get good home-made Capirotada, the Mexican bread pudding, in Phoenix?

The stuff that Ranch Market sells is awful.

Thanks.

  1. You can get it by the cup (individual serving) at Guerrero's on Apache in Tempe. It's the only capirotada I've ever tried, so I can't benchmark it relative to anyone else's version.

Thanks ... more importantly, and better question is did you like it??

I liked it, but then again I like Thai Elephant, so there are potential differences in personal preferences to take into account. Keep in mind also that part of the appeal for me might have been the novelty since I'd never heard of it until I saw it on the menu at Guerrero's.

Although I liked the taste, I will say that it seemed a heavy dessert to have after a burrito enchilada style with rice and beans. Most of the time, I'm inclined to go down the street and get gelato or frozen yogurt at Chill as a lighter dessert.

I've attached a photo of the capirotada at Guerrero's.

          Thanks for the feedback.

I think just about any dessert would be heavy after a meal of burrito enchilada style with rice/beans. :-)

By the way, I was just at Thai Elephant this past week (don't ask why I'm always there when I don't like it ...), but it looks like they've really scaled back their lunch time menu. Still hopping as always, though.
