Given the Beer Festival kicks off today at the Bell Centre, I was wondering if anyone had any "can't miss" recommendations for some of the smaller microbrews available that might otherwise be ignored.

Generally I'm intrigued by a lot of the lesser-known beers, but I tend to shy away when they charge 5-6 tickets (which equals $5-$6) for a sample.

It's not at the Bell Centre, rather at Cours Windsor, next to BC. As for beer, I'm very fond of the Allagash white, a beer from Maine that is very solid. I always bring some back whenever I'm in New England and I doscovered it at the Mondial de la bière.

I don't know if they are attending the fest, but you could drop by The Reservoir, a great microbrewery/restaurant, on Duluth, corner St-Laurent. The beer is excellent, and they have new kinds once in a while. The menu always changes, so I make a point to drop in try a beer and a new dish!
