Source for saffron in Atlanta

My current saffron supply, which was brought back for me a few years ago from Spain by a colleague, is about to run out. I no longer have that connection. I get to Atlanta from my mountain nest occasionally, so is there a good place in the Atlanta area can I get some of decent quality, especially at a reasonable price (I realize reasonable is a relative term when discussing saffron). Many thanks for any help.

Not all that long ago I bought a full ounce of Coupe #1 Saffron (Spanish) at Costco for $27 and change. If you are a Costco member you might want to check there. It was an incredible deal.

The last ounce I bought several years ago was over $40/ounce, so that is a great deal. Was that for threads or powder?

Threads. The jar is pictured at this site - upper left photo.

There are almost no light red colored threads at all and no orange or yellow. Very good stuff.

A 2nd vote for DeKalb Farmers Market
It is around $6 and you must pay in cash where they have the cakes
      Definately the best deal going

I got my current supply from Penzey's. They actually have a store in B'ham- my folks got it there before coming to ATL for a visit. IIRC, they have 3 different grades to choose from.

DeKalb Farmer's Market has it. You have to ask at the cash register for it. But it's probably the best price in town.

Give Star Provisions a call...they'll most likely have it. They're on Howell Mill, owned and operated by Anne Quatrano and Cliff Harrison of Bacchanalia fame.

I order it from San Francisco Herb. That doesn't help you with Atlanta, but I think a large herb and spice seller is more likely to have fresh products, just based on the volume they must sell..
