"Mac and Ernie's" near Tarpley, TX
I'm going to be driving from Midland to San Antonio to Laredo in few weeks. Anybody ever eat at Mac and Ernie's? I saw a food channel story on the place and it looks good. I am especially looking forward to the Cabrito burger and the Chipotle glazed quail. Anybody here tried it?

Both are excellent choices, but you'll have to either go twice or pick which of the two you want because the cabrito burger is on the lunch menu and the quail on the dinner menu. On second thought, if you about 4 pm and have the burger, you could then hang around 'til 5 for the quail! It's a great place to hang around---very friendly folks and a fun, rustic setting. It isn't near Tarpley, it's IN Tarpley but it isn't a very big place! Naylene also does wonderful lamb, and especially recommended is her chicken-fried lamb which sounds gross but is fabulous. I'm sure you'll have a great time, but before you go you MUST check out the website for their hours which are basically just Fri. and Sat. Every Fri. morning, they post that weekend's menu items---a lot are always on like the quail, a steak, the catfish and shrimp, but every week there are 4 o 5 items that vary. Also wonderful is the coconut cream pie, and I don't even LIKE coconut! Anyway, website is www.macandernies.com and have a GREAT time!

Thanks for the reply. I'll make sure I travel on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday. If I can somehow time it to 4 PM, that's when I'll go. I have to try the cabrito burger, and would at least like to sample the quail. My brother's company (Fasken Ranches) owns the La Posada, on the river, in Laredo, and I was hoping to go over to Nuevo Laredo for their Cabrito Pastor. But, they say it's still too dangerous with the drug wars going on.

Dhedges53, you might want to call just to be sure if you happen to be going on Weds. I thought that nowadays, Naylene just served tacos on Weds., and while good, they aren't on a par with the stellar cabrito burgers. But then I noticed that on another page of her website, it states that burgers, etc. are served on Weds. It used to be tacos only because she had no other help on Weds, but as her popularity has grown, maybe now she can do more. But in any case, call to be sure you aren't disappointed!
