Dover Sole

I absolutely adore DS and it's getting hard to find. I used to have it at the Oyster Bar at GCS but I don't think it's on the menu any more. Please help with restaurants that serve it!

La Grenouille has it. Also saw it as a special at La Goulue a couple of weeks ago at dinner - it was almost $50, so we passed on it!

Go to menupages.com and enter a "food" search for dover sole. MP will scan all its menus to find who's got it. It does show up as a special from time to time in some restaurants, but that's harder to track.

I still dream about the Dover Sole I had at BLT Fish in Union Square. Was one of the best pieces of fish I ever had (and probably most expensive as well).

Dover sole is seasonal. In season, La Petite Auberge always has whole Dover sole on the specials menu. They do a superb job preparing it. It's one of our absolute favorite things to order there, and the last time we had it was about two weeks ago. It's best to call and check if it's available.

I had it a few weeks ago at Daniel - it was divine. I have also seen it on the menu at the Four Seasons.

Orsay has it grilled or Meunier. Whole or fillet.

My wife swears the best she ever had in NYC (she grew up on the North Sea in Belgium, and really is a conisieur) was at the Carlyle restaurant, though that was a couple of years ago.

Avra Estiatorio has a very tasty dover sole sold by the pound ($37.95/lb. last time I was there). It was cooked and seasoned perfectly.

I had Dover Sole at Le Cirque last night. I had it grilled, but you can also have it "meuniere" or "almondine". It is $69. Mine was overcooked, but my husband, who also had it grilled, said that his wasn't, and my mother-in-law had it "almondine" and hers looked moister than mine.

Sandro's, on the UES, also has it sometimes.

Edit: I also had it a couple of months ago at the restaurant at The Carlyle, and thought that it was on par with the one at La Grenouille.

The dover sole at La Grenouille is divine. Marea used to have it but took it off their menu. Yes, Keens does have it and I am sure it is great because I love Keens but frankly I would never not order a steak there.
