any comments about the FRANK PEPE's chains?

mrnyc May 26, 2008 10:19 PM

we ate a large clam pie and a large pepperoni/onion pie at the bridgeport FRANK PEPE'S PIZZERIA saturday and it was pretty much as good as the new haven original. close to the same atmosphere too.

was i dreaming? it left me wondering....what are opinions on the PEPE'S satellite's vs the original (& THE SPOT too i guess)? thx

the Pizza was just as good at the Fairfield location and the service was better-now if they can open one on Long Island, preferably the Port Jeff area!

okay....I've been to three out of the four locations...the orginal is still the best, if you don't want to wait in line...then the spot is your choice...I've been to fairfield and find it, in my experience to be pretty close to the orignal....have heard others not have that experience but I can only go by what has happened when I went there....atmosphere..well similar in fairfield...little more open....doesn't exactly have the feel of the original in New Haven....guess you have to decide for yourself...my vote...the original in New Haven...I drive 2 hours to get there...and always get an extra pie for the next day....

thx. i was surprized and impressed to find a clone as good or at least about as good as the original.

Too bad he doesn't open one in Westchester. His pizza in New Haven is still the standard that I judge pizza by, and there ain't none here.

And, darn it, I still haven't gotten to Fairfield, wherever that is. Is there a 'fairfield' sign on I-95 for me?

The Fairfield Pepe's is 2 minutes from Exit 24 off I-95

Have you tried Sal's in Mamaroneck? My personal favorite!

Island Nomad, I've liked Sal's since forever. The last time I was there, which was awhile ago, the Sicilian slice (which was always dependable) was overcooked and flat. Almost as flat as a regular slice.

My new favorite is Racanelli's in Rye Ridge.
