With many of our local 'asian' restaurants failing health inspections...the bad ways: roaches, chicken juice cross contamination, temperature storage faults, eating oriental out is no longer pleasant.
And I doubt that Malaysian flavors will ever get here.
So there's a niche in my part of the world, but will they overprice it for those who equate oriental with cheap eats?›3 Replies-
re: shallots
Over pricing has never been a corporate model for the CF folks. Over feeding, yes. I guess they could start a new pricing model here, and depending on what sort of rent they are having to pay they may well need to price this UP. This is a 7,500 sq. ft. place they are opening up, so I wonder how that will do in terms of putting bodies in chairs with so many other competing places looking for our dining dollars at the Century City mall.

re: Servorg
You know the concept might well work, There is a place in NYC called Ruby Foo's. It was a huge kitschy throwback to Chinese places of the 50's. The place was a total tourist trap, the food was not that memorable, but you know what? we had fun. The place was packed with locals and tourists alike. I think CF looked at this place and saw how well it is doing, and they reinvented for themselves. Is there a really huge difference between Hustons, CF, CPK and the like. I think that they are trying to exploit new territories and I think it will work. CF serves its public very well. They get trashed on this board, but we are not the customers they are after.

I'm certain we will give it a try. My wife loves CF, (and I like a couple of their burgers). I think the idea has promise. I just am afraid that they will dumb down the food so much that it will be inedible. Not too mention, when someone tries to do a range of dishes from several different areas of southeast Asia, or wherever, they tend to do none of them well. But we will wait and see.
