Philly cheesesteak found in Brklyn!

If you're ever looking for the closest thing you'll find to a great Philly cheesesteak..look no further than Peppino's on 5th Ave in Park Slope. We've now had them 4 times - and their pizza is good but those cheesesteaks are the stuff of happiness (and I grew up in the 'burbs of Philly). toasty and really shredded with very melted cheese.

    Thanks for the info. It's good to know, because the only cheesesteak place I know of is the one on 4th Ave in Bay Ridge and it's absolutely horrible.

      There's also a hideous one on Flatbush Avenue - absolutely the worst greasy stuff I've had in a long time. Let me know what you think.

        I've had, and really liked their pizza. I'm not around there very often and parking is a nightmare, but if and when I have the opportunity to check it out, I absolutely will. I don't know why but for some reason, apparently, cheesesteaks are very difficult to 'get right.' I've had so many really greasy, tough, salty overpriced-for-what-you-get, versions. Finding a decent one will be a real treat.
        Thanks again :-}

              I went to school in Philly so if you two are satisfied that this is the real deal, I'm really going to make an effort to get to Peppinos!

                get out -i grew up in Glenside and went to CHS. Been in nyc/brooklyn for 12 years, and haven't found a decent cheesesteak yet! I'll try Peppino's soon.

                  Cheltenham/Elkins Park here too! and a grandmother in south philly. I make sure to get cheesesteaks every time I go home, so I can't wait to try Peppino's. Thanks for the heads up!

          Hope and Anchor in Red Hook has an excellent snarky cheesesteak. and i was just in philly last week eating real cheesesteakz and i can still say that hope and anchor's is an excellent specimen. it's no john's pork, but it is quite respectable. add a lime ricky and you are good to go! enjoy fb

            I'm not so sure "snarky" is a good descriptive word, lol!

              I'll have to try it again, because when they first opened I had their cheesesteak and it was truly awful. It sounds like they changed it for the better. Will try it next time I'm at H&A.

              I've always wanted to give it a try, considering i've been looking for a great cheesesteak for weeks now..

              I remember looking at the price and backing away -- I forgot the price though, is it worth the money?

                I'll try it but is it really a great cheesesteak without whizz?
