Hi there,

I will be in Quebec City, staying at Chateau Frontenac in a few days and am looking to have one of the "things I must try (perhaps only once) before I die" crossed off my list- poutine. i seached this board but most reccomendations were for montreal and I wont be there. Is Chez Ashton the best or it more a matter of convenience with so many locations. Also looking for good bagels and breakfast places.

Thanks so much!

I don't know much about eating in Quebec City but I do know that you cannot go wrong with a poutine from Ashton. I love their Dulton and Dulton Saucisses poutines.

Man, I really don't all the craze and pride people in QC have for Ashton. Yeah the fries are good but the gravy is something else, and I don't mean that in a good way. Maybe it's just me but I find it overly seasoned and cloying. But the fries are really good. Like somebody else said, you can't go wrong with Ashton despite my reservations for the place. There's one on Grande Allée not very far from Château.

There is a Chez Ashton closer on Cote du Palais, corner of St Jean Street in Old Quebec, right across from McDonald's (where you can also find poutine, by the way).

I spent almost 25 years in Quebec City and I have yet to find a good bagel place. For breakfast, you can try Cosmos on Grande Allee.
