The most perfect birthday cakes from Cannelle in Queens

Had my son's birthday party yesterday, and just wanted to post the photo of the cakes from Cannelle, they were exceptional as usual. Beautiful and delicious, so light and elegant looking...I couldn't have been happier. No other bakery in Queens compares, and I've tried all the "good" ones.

  1. Excellent choices Janie. One of these days I plan to ask them to make me a custom made cake which I'm sure will be delish.

    1. I agree wholeheartedly. We got the chocolate mouse cake and the strawberry shortcake for my son's 2nd bday, and they were magical.
      I also like their sandwichs for lunch--take them over to the nearby LaGuardia Landing Lights park for a picnic, which is a nice place to be IF the planes aren't flying overhead!
      I'd even go out on a limb and say I've never experienced such consistently excellent baked goods in all of NYC.

            this is just a general curiosity question... I grew up in Jackson Heights, havent lived there in about 15 years. How old is this bakery? Is it where Jay Dee's was?

              I don't live on this side of Northern Blvd., and I don't really pay attention to the little stores in this "minimall" so I can't tell you if it is where Jay Dee was, but Cannelle just opened this past December. It has a huge parking lot in the middle, and the other stores include Modell's and Radioshack. It also has a place called Dante's, which I think does catering etc.

                Yes, this is the same spot as Jay Dee's. The new bakery is about 6 months old.

          2. Have you tried the gateau St. Honore? I've seen it on weekends, but you can order one anytime. It comes in two sizes. It's a pate a choux (eclair/cream puff dough) base, with custard and whipped cream layered over it. Then there are custard filled cream puffs with a hard caramel shell. This cake is amazing. Must be eaten the same day, not a problem for me. I used to eat this cake as a child and no one has made this as good.

              Have not tried that as of yet, but their chocolate eclairs are divine. Sounds like a good 4th of July Cake!
